Quality Training Systems (QTS) is seeking an experienced instructional designer to assist in developing training for users of its flagship product, Quality Training Database (QTD). QTD manages all aspects of training program design and implementation for operators of the high voltage electric grid to ensure compliance with national regulations. Add-on modules allow students to complete computer-based training modules, take tests, and complete evaluation forms on line. QTD is used by electric utilities throughout the US and Canada and is the preferred training tool for training managers within our niche market. QTS currently provides class-based training for QTD users. We are seeking to augment the class-based training offerings with a full range of computer-based training, using programs such as Captivate and Articulate, and with a suite of internet-based instructor-led training modules using webex or similar program for training delivery. As part of the QTS team, the Senior Instructional Designer will bring state-of-the-art knowledge of instructional software and instructional design techniques to assist the QTS team in providing high quality training materials for QTD users. The senior instructional designer will also assist our consulting teams to design and develop technical training packages for utility operators. The successful candidate will have an MA or certificate in instructional design. He or she will have a minimum of 3 years of professional practice with a proven ability to work with technical content material. Quality Training Systems offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including health insurance, paid holidays, sick leave, and vacation, and a 401(k) plan. If you are looking for new opportunities in great environment with a small but growing and well-respected company, we encourage you to submit your resume and salary requirements for consideration to careers@qualitytrainingsystems.com. |

As Training Consultant/Instructional Designer you will provide a range of training and performance support services for the electric utility industry. We typically work with the technical training units of a utility (e.g. transmission, distribution, bulk power operations, generation) to design and develop their performance-based training programs. Your job responsibilities will include:
Applicants should have at least 5 years’ experience conducting Job Task Analyses and curriculum development using the ADDIE process, plus excellent oral and written communications skills and proficiency with MS Office products (Excel, Word and PowerPoint). Experience in project management would be desirable, along with the ability to develop standard operating procedures and demonstrated technical aptitude. Experience with electric utilities (e.g., bulk power operations) is also preferred, but not a requirement. More specifically, certification as a NERC System Operator would provide a terrific advantage. While our desired candidates should also possess at minimum a bachelor’s degree, we also value the knowledge that is gained from following a nontraditional approach to learning. Many employees in positions such as these have earned a degree in various technical, instructional design, or adult learning fields; however, QTS also recognizes the potential value of comparable work experience. Although this position is based in our Chicago office, travel to North American client sites will also be required (up to 50% travel is expected). Interested in joining our team?
